| E J A U14 Rep Side Match Report |
Colin
EJA v Cambridge Colts
Venue: Newmarket Town FC
Date:22nd April 2009
Result 1-2
On a chilly evening, both teams gave a good account of themselves, and this was a match that could've gone either way.
Cambridge started well, attacking straight from the kick-off, but the EJA defence held firm until Cambridge scored after some neat play with a long range shot.
EJA were finding it hard to play their normal passing game, as Cambridge were pressing and defending high up the pitch leaving little room for the EJA wingers to attack.
Finally. EJA equalised, with some quick thinking by their striker after a flick on by Tom and his shot beat the Cambridge keeper from fifteen yards.
Both teams pushed for the winner, but it was Cambridge who scored late on in the second half to claim the victory with a 'daisy cutter' that eluded the EJA defence and Jamie in the EJA goal.
Adam Knight nearly equalised late on, but his shot went over the bar.
EJA v Suffolk EJA
Venue: Ipswich Wanderers FC
Date:?? 2009
Result 3-3
This game really was a 'game of two halves', with each side dominating each half and culminating in a thrilling game which was a credit to both sides.
Suffolk started the brighter, and were 1-0 up after one of their players connected with a corner to shoot his team into an early lead.
EJA were having problems picking up the movement of the Suffolk strikers, but it was EJA that equalised when a neat passage of play put Tom through and he scored with a fierce shot.
After the break, Suffolk upped the tempo and scored two quick goals due to some misunderstandings in the EJA defence.
EJA resorted to a more direct approach, and were rewarded when Tom scored his second goal of the night, after a 'flick on' from his striking partner led him to shooting low and hard into the Suffolk goal.
With very little time left, EJA pressed forward, sometimes leaving themselves exposed on the counter, but in the final minutes Adam Knight due to some good movement equalised after tapping in from a corner.
EJA v Milton Keynes
Venue: Wingate & Finchley FC
Date: 5th May 2009
Result 14-1
On a windy evening, the EJA team warmed up the spectators with clinical finishing and an excellent passing game that culminated in a convincing win.
With Tom being out injured, it was down to other players to come to the fore and this they did with 3 players(Adam Knight, Jordan Brown & ?) scoring four goals & Henry another two.
This was not just about the lads that scored, it was a tremendous team effort and performance which made the opportunities for the lads mentioned, and could have been more but for some desperate defending by the MK defence.
There would not be enough space to fully write up each goal, performance and commitment by the EJA team, but in their last match, this was the best performance of the season?
